Description:
Scrappy Mending is a dive into the world of sustainable, unique mending.
Participants will transform one well-loved (stained, ripped, etc.) non-knit item from their wardrobe (does NOT have to be a Patagonia item) using items around them and techniques such as patchwork and basic embroidery.
Â
This workshop is great for folks who are new to sewing but want to get into mending their own clothes quickly and on a budget!
Â
Materials: All necessary additional materials, besides the item to be upcycled will be provided.Â
Rebuild is the passion project of Mx. Julia(n) Rich (they/he), a full time 6-12 grade S.T.E.A.M. educator and makerspace manager focusing on creative reuse in maker education.
When Mx. Rich saw the need for teaching adults the same maker skills they were teaching their students, Julia(n) started teaching handy and mending classes for all ages during their school breaks and on weekends as Rebuild. Classes have been held at libraries, community spaces, creative reuse stores, and more. Rebuild focuses on inspiring developing makers of all ages to dive into sustainable woodworking, electronics, crafting, and textile work.
You can find their classes here: rebuildspace.com and hear them giggling on TikTok: @mxrichmakes
REMAINDERS is a 501c3 nonprofit creative space and arts & crafts reuse store. They are focused on creative reuse and sustainability. Their arts and crafts reuse store diverts thousands of pounds of usable materials from landfills thanks to households and businesses that donate to us. They are super thankful for your generous donations! Their upstairs creative space hosts classes and events, bringing together a diverse group of people to learn and create!
